Match preview: Tottenham Hotspur v West Bromwich Albion

After an opening day defeat at Newcastle, Spurs return to White Hart Lane to face West Bromwich Albion in this season’s first home game. We look ahead to the game with the lastest team news and match stats.

Both teams enjoyed contrasting fortunes in their first game of the season.

Spurs were undone by a late Ben Arfa penalty after failing to convert chances in the first half. A great goal by Demba Ba put Newcastle ahead 10 minutes after half-time. Spurs equalised courtesy of a Jermain Defoe goal. A clumsy challenge by Van der Vaart and Lennon on Ben Arfa eventually resulted in the game winning penalty for The Toon.

West Brom’s season got off to a flyer with an impressive 3-0 win over Liverpool at The Hawthorns. Just before half-time Zoltan Gera put the home team in front with a thunderous striker from outside the box. In the second half Daniel Agger was sent off after a challenge from behind in the penalty box on Shane Long. Long missed the penalty but later in the half Peter Odemwingie did convert from the spot for The Baggies. Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku made the final score 3-0.
