Tottenham Hotspur and Schalke 04 have reached an agreement on the immediate transfer of midfielder Lewis Holtby.
Spurs already had a pre-contract agreement with the German midfielder to join the club at the start of next season. In December Holtby only had 6 months left on his Schalke contract and was free to discuss his future beyond June. On January 4th it was announced he agreed to join Spurs at the beginning of the 2013/14 season.
Spurs now have moved to bring Holtby in with immediate effect after paying a modest transfer fee to Schalke 04. The fee is believed to be in the region of £1.5m.
Tottenham were forced into the market after the loss of midfielder Sandro for the rest of the season limited André Villas-Boas’ options in central midfield. Tottenham’s head coach will also be looking for solid back-up for Moussa Dembélé who has suffered of a recurring hip injury earlier this season.
